The nation's first "Real Jeans Taxi," whose entire body is covered almost entirely in Okayama-produced denim, began operating in the Kojima area of Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, on November 5th. The vehicle's body, bumpers, mirrors, and wheels are made with denim from Betty Smith, a long-established local manufacturer. The interior seat covers and the driver's jacket are also made of denim, making it a truly "Okayama Denim" taxi, welcoming tourists as a new symbol of the "denim town." The Kojima area has long operated some tourist buses and taxis wrapped in denim-patterned seats. The "Real Jeans Taxi" was completed approximately two years after its conception, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the birth of domestically produced jeans. The Real Jeans Taxi operates only on sunny days and requires a charter (2,930 yen per 30 minutes) with advance reservations. When no reservations are available, the taxi will travel within the city and accept passengers.
