From August 26th to September 8th, Isetan Shinjuku will be showcasing a lifestyle that fuses fashion and digital technology. It promises to be a space where you can experience how digital technology is changing our lives and creating the next generation of prosperity.
On the second floor of the main building, where trendy fashion is showcased, you'll find items that suggest new possibilities in the retail and fashion business, such as "Memomi," a 360-degree mirror that lets you see how you look while trying on clothes. This was the first of its kind in Japan and was selected in the "ISETAN CHALLENGE" competition held last month at Decoded Fashion, a global summit that creates a space where fashion and technology intersect. Also on the same floor are fashions by ANREALAGE featuring textiles whose patterns become visible under black light, bodysuits constructed from sewn knitwear by SOMARTA, and accessories and shoes made with 3D printers. While each product and approach is unique, they all share a common thread: leveraging digital technology to create creative and user experiences. While these efforts are currently undertaken by individual brands and companies, the exhibition offers a glimpse into a future in which these experiences are integrated and accessible to users. Also on display will be Pepper, a robot born from a fashion hackathon organized by SoftBank and Isetan Mitsukoshi for fashion design students. Other exhibits include "SENSY," a fashion coordination app that uses artificial intelligence, and other promising digital solutions that will enrich our lives. On the sixth floor of the building, there will be an experience space for "JINS MEME," a glasses-like device from JINS that was also exhibited at Milano Salone. Designed by graphic designer Taku Sato and created by Seiichi Saito of Rhizomatiks, the device visualizes the wearer's emotional state. What's interesting about this project is that it combines digital technology with the traditional eyeglasses to take a completely different approach of observing the movements of one's own emotions. It allows people to experience the potential of wearable devices.
The possibilities of digital are immeasurable. What kind of changes will digital technology bring about in the physical and emotional realm of fashion? This promotion may be one way of working towards the future of fashion.
