Disk Union, a retailer of music CDs and records, will open its first women's music select shop, "Girlside," on October 21st inside its Ikebukuro store (4th floor, Takamura Building, 1-1-2 Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo).
In response to the increasing number of young women buying records, the shop was developed with the concept of "making records and music more accessible to girls." The shop will stock not only music software such as records and CDs, but also fashion items such as miscellaneous goods and accessories, and will propose ways to enjoy music culture from various perspectives, including planning participatory events such as workshops.
The store was produced by Taya Sumire, who is active in a wide range of fields as a DJ, writer, and shop owner, and has also been involved in women's market planning, such as organizing the cultural event "Shibukura Matsuri" on the rooftop of Ikebukuro Parco. To commemorate the opening, there will be a talk show with Taya and columnist Yamazaki Madoka on the 23rd, as well as an in-store live performance by singer-songwriter Maika Leboutet.
