The cicadas are chirping, and the sweltering heat continues. Many people cool off by munching on ice cream or shaved ice in an air-conditioned room. But music can also help you cool down. This time, we'll introduce you to some "cool-down music" to listen to this summer.
The judge was Taro Tsunoda, president of the cassette tape specialty store waltz. He chose five albums from those released this year. They're all gentle, ear-pleasing music that only cassette tapes can offer. Cool down this summer, starting with your ears.
DAVID BAZAN "BLANCO"
This is the third solo album by Seattle-based singer-songwriter David Bazan. Originally a core member of indie bands like Pedro the Lion and Headphones, his third solo album is folktronica perfect for listening to in the evening breeze. A languid, low-pitched voice flows leisurely through the air. A download code is included with the cassette.

"BLANCO" by David Bazan
Plush "PLEASE"
This is the third album from Plush, a four-piece band (three women, one man) from San Francisco. The transparent, whispering female vocals are captivating. And the soft, floating pop guitar sound gently soothes your heated body. These five songs evoke nostalgia and tug at the heartstrings of memories. The surreal jacket featuring a boy with glasses striking a mysterious pose is also adorable!

Futeisha "Alegrias y duelos de mi alma"
The manga-like jacket and kanji name might lead you to believe they're Japanese, but FUTEISHA is actually a solo unit by an Italian guitarist. Their oriental guitar sound is sometimes nostalgic, sometimes majestic. The album also incorporates avant-garde and experimental ambient sounds, creating a world reminiscent of a David Lynch soundtrack.

"Alegrias y duelos de my alma" by FUTEISHA
ADELINE HOTEL "It's Alright Just The Same"
ADELINE HOTEL is the solo project of Brooklyn, New York-based singer-songwriter Daniel Knishkowy. This second album features a very nostalgic folk sound that evokes the good old days of America. These are all quiet, gentle songs that you'll want to listen to when you wake up early in the morning, before it gets too hot. They'll help you face the day with a calm mind.

Bitchin Bajes And Bonnie Prince Billy, 'Epic Jammers And Fortunate Little Ditties'
A collaborative album by Bonnie Prince Billy, one of America's most representative singer-songwriters today, and Chicago experimental music unit Bitchin Bajes. The improvisations of both musicians create a captivating psychedelia. Surrender yourself to the tranquil sound world that evokes the fantastical and majestic landscape of America's primitive past.
