The PARCO DESIGN MUSEUM "Preservation Exhibition," an experiential exhibition where visitors can learn about design while having fun, will be held from October 21st to 30th at the PARCO Museum on the 7th floor of the Ikebukuro PARCO Main Building.
Produced by H.P. FRANCE BATOMA (place and space), which focuses on interior design and design, the exhibition will feature interactive content such as theme-specific exhibitions and workshops while highlighting a current design theme.
The design theme is "preservation." The word "preservation" can have many different meanings, such as collectors preserving objects, preserving food ingredients, and artists preserving them for their artwork. The exhibition will introduce such preservation practices from three perspectives: "art," "collections," and "food." The "Art" section features beautiful and mysterious "transparent specimens," which elevate academic specimens to art. The "Collection" section features four collectors' favorite items: McDonald's, used furniture, specimens, and sake bottles. The "Food" section introduces various preservation methods, focusing on the preservation of ethnic minorities and fermentation. During the exhibition, workshops will also be held, allowing visitors to interact with the exhibits, including viewing the specimens under a microscope. Other events include a seminar by Takako Yokoyama, representative director of the Japan Fermentation Culture Association, and a museum shop selling products collected under the theme of "preservation." Participating creators include transparent specimen artist Iori Tomita, Junichi Matsuzaki, home appliance collector and Retrofitter who runs Design Underground, piika, an antique and vintage shop in Koenji, and Yasuhiro Nakazato, brand director of Arche'ologie. The venue design will be handled by architect Ai Yoshida.
