Since opening her own gallery, KH Gallery, in Ginza in 2012, Hiroko Koshino's work as artist and her archive as designer have narrowed with each passing season. Her 17SS collection, unveiled on October 20th at Ebisu Garden Hall in Tokyo, was themed "BOUNDARY: Challenging the Commonplace," showcasing a sporty take on Cubism. The show eschewed the usual runway, instead showcasing a theater-style, square, flat stage in the center illuminated with lighting. The light installation was the work of circle side, an artist collective with which she collaborated last year in Kyoto and this year in Ashiya. She is currently showcasing her work, titled "Resonance," at the "BIWAKO Biennale 2016: Unfulfilled Dreams" exhibition in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture. The collection featured bold curves and asymmetrical shapes, featuring jersey fabric in a lineup that included dresses and skinny pants. A relaxed collection that effortlessly incorporates seasonal trends such as denim, mesh and oversized silhouettes, while toying with the boundaries between fashion and art.
The art motifs are cut-ups from Noda's own paintings, knitwear with textured surfaces, optical prints, stripes and checks, combined geometrically to create a look that blends two and three dimensions.
In addition, as of September 1st, HIROKO KOSHINO's eldest daughter, Koshino Yuka, will be appointed Representative Director and President. Former President Koshino Hiroko will become Representative Director and Chairperson, marking the start of a new system that allows her to focus on her artistic work.
