Hiroko Koshino's 2016-2017 Autumn/Winter collection was shown at Ebisu Garden Hall on March 17th. A jacquard knit featuring geometric patterns such as scales and cloisonné, set against a white background in lapis lazuli and tangerine, was another example. Another jacquard knit featured a geometallic pattern combined with cobalt blue and cinnamon. While the subject matter is the same, the way it's expressed changes the way it's perceived. Founded in 1964, Hiroko Koshino is a Guinness-level world record holder for a designer who continues to present runway collections under her own name. This season's collection highlighted the fusion of East and West, a hallmark of Hiroko Koshino's style, more than in recent seasons. While established international brands continue to delve into their archives for collections, her drive to evolve her own archives shows no sign of waning. Not to mention the luxurious use of multiple layers of fabric, traditional Japanese techniques such as dyeing, printing, jacquard and embroidery are enhanced with the latest techniques, creating a parade of Japanese luxury.
The color palette, patterns, materials, etc., all express the theme of this collection, "chaos," and the mischievous, almost disorderly overflow is brought to life by the fact that all the looks are tied together with slip-on sneakers, a look that is typical of Hiroko Koshino, who does not want the brand to age.
