KEITA MARUYAMA presented his Spring/Summer 2017 collection on October 21st at the Maruyama Residence in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. This time, the collection was presented as an installation featuring models rather than a show. Based on the theme "Is it Iris or Iris?", the collection showcased designs characteristic of Keita Maruyama, blending various elements, including Japanese, floral, and Chinese motifs. The venue was on the first floor of the residence. Inside, chairs and tables were lined up in the space normally used as a shop. Approximately seven models were present. Models wearing floral blouses and dresses were relaxing in chairs, while models wearing graphic pieces were playing mahjong at tables in the back of the store. Following a route through the center of the store, a model in a sequined dress sat in a chair on the left, and finally, a model wearing a dress featuring a kabuki-inspired print by Akira Uno was gazing at a bird in a cage. Because only a limited number of people can enter at one time, only about seven of the nearly 30 designs are visible, and the clothes on display vary depending on the time of day. However, the "Keita Maruyama world" was so palpable that one woman who saw the installation commented, "Even the air feels like Keita Maruyama." Maruyama commented, "I wanted to create a way to display the clothes so that they could linger in the space, and I used a presentation format so that people could get up close and personal and take a closer look. I actually created three times as many pieces as people saw, and I even filmed them on this, but those can be posted immediately on social media. I want people to experience it firsthand. I don't think trends or featured items or designs are important; I prioritized mood. The colors may have looked different depending on the lighting, but these days, mood is more important than color or shape. I believe that what you want to communicate and the feelings you want to evoke should be your top priority. However, I love shows, so I haven't decided what to do next."
