Fashion journalist Shimizu Tomoaki, author of the blog "Tomo-kun's Paris Flea Market Stroll" and the book "A Stroll Through Parisian Vintage Fashion," will be holding flea market events in Daikanyama, Tokyo, and Namba, Osaka, in May.
Shimizu, who lives in Paris, introduces various vintage items he has purchased at Paris flea markets in his articles for fashion magazines such as "Soen" and "Fashion Tsushin" and in his own blog. He sells these items at "Flea Market Exhibitions" several times a year in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyushu. The number of fans who look forward to each event is growing, and this will be the third event in Namba and the ninth in Daikanyama.
The Namba event will be held at "osoblanco" (2nd floor, 1-2-36 Saiwai-cho, Naniwa-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) from May 23rd to 27th. The Daikanyama location will be "pupi et mimi" (1-A Daikanyama Stella House, 13-5 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) from May 30th to June 4th.
In addition to toys, stuffed animals, and accessories, ceramic and other tableware, enamel kitchenware, antique tins and cartonnage boxes, handicraft goods such as lace and braid, and paper products will also be on sale. "Shabby items have long been popular in Japan, but I don't pay much attention to these antique trends. I focus on what I like, a feminine and chic style that is typically French. I also like humorous things, so I incorporate many hilarious stuffed animals and toys. We also have a wide selection of unique dolls, tableware, and miscellaneous goods that are rarely seen in Japan. Because everything is imported directly from France, the prices are also reasonable. I hope that visitors will discover their own values through antiques, without being bound by trends or brands," says Shimizu. A reception party celebrating the publication of "A Stroll Through Vintage Fashion in Paris," published in February of this year, is scheduled for 6 PM on the first day at both venues.
