Daikanyama T-Site is exhibiting "SUMO BOOK," a massive photo book featuring the works of photographer Annie Leibovitz, until May 26th.
SUMO BOOK is a photo book series published by German publisher TASCHEN. The first edition, featuring works by Helmut Newton, published in 2009, measured 51 x 71 cm and weighed approximately 29.9 kg, earning it a Guinness World Record as the world's largest photo book. Subsequent editions featuring works by Takatsune Araki and Sebastiao Salgado have astounded art fans worldwide with their powerful and powerful presence.
The latest in the SUMO series, the Leibovitz photo book, is available worldwide in a limited edition of 9,000 copies. It features approximately 250 of Leibovitz's works. The collection spans over 40 years of Leibovitz's work, from documentary photos of The Rolling Stones' world tour during his time as chief photographer for Rolling Stone magazine to editorial work for Vogue and celebrity portraits. It also includes historically significant photographs, such as a shot of John Lennon embracing Yoko Ono just hours before his death. Priced at ¥291,600, it comes with a stand designed by Marc Newson. The inspiration for this collection lies in the fact that Benedikt Taschen, owner of Taschen, asked Helmut Newton, "Who would be a good successor to your SUMO BOOK?" and he suggested Salgado and Leibovitz.
