Seiko Nextage will release two new color models of the "O" watch designed by Tokujin Yoshioka as part of the "ISSEY MIYAKE Watch Project" on May 20th.
First released in 2011, "O" stands for the French word for "water" (eau), and the concept is "the shape of water, a watch that keeps time transparently." Crafted using transparent materials, a specialty of Tokujin Yoshioka, a creator active in a wide range of fields from art to architecture, this bangle-style watch has the shapelessness of water and the fleeting sparkle of light. The new colors are blue and light blue. The price is 16,000 yen.
Yoshioka was born in 1967. He studied design under Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake, and founded the Tokujin Yoshioka Design Office in 2000. He has collaborated with Issey Miyake for over 10 years, notably designing shops for brands like Issey Miyake and A-POC, as well as the spatial design for the "Issey Miyake Making Things" exhibition held at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris. From product design to architecture and installations, his work transcends the realm of design and is highly regarded as art, with his works being included in the permanent collections of major art museums around the world, such as the Musée d'Orsay and MoMA.
