PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE has announced a new series in collaboration with graphic designer Kazumasa Nagai. The collaboration began after Miyake Issey attended Nagai's solo exhibition. The three series include the "LIFE" series, featuring colorful transfers on white fabric, inspired by the "LIFE" series posters, which feature adorable and sometimes humorous hand-drawn animals and plants; the "LIFE-JOY-" series (available only at the street-level store), which features animal-inspired colors; and the "LIFE BOUNCE" series, whose horizontal pleats allow the animals' expressions to change as they move. The collection includes apparel such as dresses (priced from 29,000 to 34,000 yen), tops, and pants, as well as bags (priced from 18,000 to 25,000 yen) and scarves. This series will also be exhibited at the Toyama Museum of Modern Art's "Nagai Kazumasa Poster Life 1957-2014," which opens on April 19th, and some of the works will be available for sale at the museum shop. A special website introducing the exhibition and each design has also been launched. The series will be available at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA from April 17th to May 8th, at ELTTOPB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE / GINZA from April 17th to May 7th, on the web store from April 17th, and at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / ROPPONGI and ELTTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE / SEMBA from May 10th to 30th. The series will also be available at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE shops nationwide from June 5th. Kazumasa Nagai was born in Osaka in 1929. After majoring in sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts, he dropped out in 1951 to begin working as a graphic designer. He has received numerous awards, including the Tokyo ADC Grand Prix, the Gold Medal at the 1st Warsaw International Poster Biennale, and the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
