Flying Tod's Shoes Created by Nendo [Milano Salone 2014 Report]

May 6, 2014

To coincide with the Milan Salone, TOD'S unveiled a new line of men's boat shoes, "Envelope Boat Shoes," in collaboration with Japanese design studio nendo. Nendo also created a window display at the brand's Via della Spiga store, visually communicating the concept of the "Envelope Boat Shoes" to passersby. The display, which spans two windows on either side of the street-facing entrance, tells the story of a leather briefcase sealed with a tight string flying out of a mailbox, with the Envelope Boat Shoes floating away on top of the paper that emerges. Regarding the concept of the window display, nendo's head, Oki Sato, said, "I was inspired by an envelope, which carries an important letter and delivers it far and wide, bringing joy to people. I wanted these shoes to deliver joy, just as they carefully wrap your feet and carry them far away." The light-hearted display evokes the letter transforming into a shoe mid-way and then flying away.
