TOD'S unveiled its "Envelope Boat Shoes" (60,000 yen), a collaboration with nendo, a design studio led by Oki Sato, at the Milano Salone International Furniture Fair, which runs until April 13th.
Sato reinterpreted Tod's deck shoes with the theme of "modern classic." It took about a year, starting immediately after last year's Milano Salone, to create a shoe that Sato himself would want to wear. The name "envelope" comes from the idea that the shoes encase the wearer's feet.
The toe is made of soft leather, the waist and rear leather are made of suede, and the sides are decorated with "tie strings," the fastenings of envelopes. The shoes also have the functionality of sailing shoes for boat racing, with water-resistant leather, rust-proof rings, and non-slip side soles. The bag will be sold exclusively at Tod's stores around the world, including Milan, Rome, Paris, London, and New York, and will be available at the Omotesando boutique in Tokyo in early May. Colors include green, blue, gray, brown, and black. Sizes range from 5 to 10 (approximately 24.0 to 29.0 cm).
