Bottega Veneta Shanghai Store is hosting a photo exhibition of China's changing landscape

Sep 9, 2013

Bottega Veneta is hosting a photography exhibition, "Critical Landscapes," at its Shanghai Yifeng Galleria store. The exhibition runs until October 31st. The works on display are by six artists and photographers active throughout China: Bo Shang, Huo Yan, Hong Lei, Gang He, Liu Jianhong, and Cao Han. The exhibit features works that explore the unbalanced relationship between humans and nature and a sense of crisis surrounding the ever-changing landscape, such as photographs of the ghost town of Ordos in Inner Mongolia and the systematic destruction of Guilin's world-famous limestone formations by its residents. The exhibition is curated by Professor Gu Zheng, a professor of visual culture and contemporary Chinese photography at Fudan University. He has previously curated exhibitions at institutions such as Parsons School of Design in New York and the Smithsonian Institution. The Yifeng Galleria store is located in a nearly 100-year-old building in the Bund area, which is lined with architecture from the 1920s and 1930s. There is a gallery space on the second floor, where exhibitions have been held, including "Damaged Heritage," which focuses on China's crumbling heritage; "Talking Objects," which explores the relationship between everyday products and everyday life; and "Facing Faces," which explores the artistic value of portraiture. The brand is committed to discovering and supporting talented artists and supporting cultural projects. The "New Exposure" photography contest, launched last year with the aim of discovering the next generation of photographers, is being held again this year. The grand prize will be announced during New York Fashion Week, which is currently underway.
