"Space Brothers" exhibition begins at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. Over 200 original drawings on display for the first time, and astronaut Naoko Yamazaki will be visiting the store.

The "Space Brothers Exhibition," featuring original drawings and anime storyboards from the popular manga "Space Brothers," which depicts the growth of two brothers aspiring to become astronauts, has opened at the gallery on the seventh floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store. It runs until May 6th. Approximately 200 original drawings by author Chuya Koyama will be on display, tracing the brothers' journey through life. Speaking at the exhibition, Koyama said, "Readers read the printed version, but the original drawings have ink spills and heavy corrections with correction fluid, so it feels a bit embarrassing to see the back of the work, like, 'Oh, I fixed this part,'" (laughs). "But I've also been to an exhibition of Fujio Akatsuka's work and been moved by the pen and ink marks, so I hope the visitors will experience the same excitement." In addition to the original drawings, the exhibition will also feature setting drawings for the TV anime, color illustrations from the comic's cover, rough sketches, Koyama's notebook, and other materials. Also on display will be space-related materials, such as highly realistic replica spacesuits and rocket models on loan from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Photography is permitted throughout the exhibition, with some exceptions, making it a must-see for Space Brothers fans. The Western hat and sunglasses worn by Mutta on the cover of Volume 10 of the comic (the author's personal possessions) will be on display. An event will be held on May 1st at 4:00 PM, allowing the first 100 visitors to take a commemorative photo wearing the hat and sunglasses. This initiative was the original author's idea. Regarding Space Brothers' various developments, from manga to anime and live-action films, Koyama commented, "I'm truly happy that the world of the work is expanding through the hands of so many people. My first priority is to make the original work more interesting and not disappoint readers." As part of the exhibition, a talk event with astronaut Naoko Yamazaki will be held at the Mitsukoshi Theater on May 4th. In addition, the animated film "Space Brothers #0," which Koyama himself wrote the script for, is scheduled to be released on August 9th of this year.
