Kohei Nawa's new work in collaboration with Comme des Garçons will be exhibited in Ebisu from the beginning of the new year.

Dec 28, 2012

Starting January 9th, Kohei Nawa's new exhibition "Kohei Nawa Direction" will be held at TRAUMARIS, an art space with a cafe on the third floor of the Nadiff Apartment bookstore in Ebisu, Tokyo. The exhibition features a series of paintings called "Direction," created solely using the paint's own weight, and a new sculpture called "Trans," created using 3D digital modeling technology. Traumaris founder Tomoe Sumiyoshi commented, "'Direction,' which depicts precisely parallel stripes in a fixed direction following gravity, is the ultimate two-dimensional work that can be realized by human hands in three-dimensional space. 'Trans,' sculpted using a 3D digital modeling system, is a cutting-edge three-dimensional work that directly embodies the sensation of a material leaping from AR to real space." Kohei Nawa was born in Osaka in 1975. He is a contemporary artist who creates sculptures using beads and prism sheets. He has collaborated with fashion brands, creating headpieces for Comme des Garçons' 2012 Spring/Summer collection. He also participated in "LADY DIOR AS SEEN BY," the project that created Dior's iconic "LADY DIOR" bag. His sculptures are installed at Dover Street Market Ginza Comme des Garçons, which opened in March of this year. In November, he held his opening solo exhibition at the Hankyu Umeda Gallery.
