Fendi Casa celebrates its 25th anniversary with the appointment of a new designer and the launch of a new line [Milan Salone 2014 Report]

May 3, 2014

Fendi's home collection division, FENDI CASA, was launched in 1989. It was one of the first fashion brands to focus on interior design. This year, marking the collection's 25th anniversary, the brand unveiled new furniture pieces at Milan Salone under the theme of "A lifestyle that reinterprets tradition with a modern twist." The Fendi brand is characterized by a blend of classic elegance in materials and techniques with innovative, contemporary ideas, and this spirit is evident in the new home collection. For the launch of the new home collection, Fendi tapped French interior decorator Thierry Lemaire. An architect first and foremost, each piece of furniture designed by Lemaire incorporates architectural elements and is designed to blend seamlessly into the interior spaces of hotels and villas, his specialty. Lemaire's sensibility, influenced by his time living in Europe, Australia, and Lebanon, seems to lend a touch of exoticism to the Fendi home collection.

For example, the new Star Table, Stardust Chair, and Star Sideboard are crafted from high-quality woods with a lustrous, distinctive grain, such as African Macassar Ebony, Zebrawood, and South American Santos Rosewood. These materials and the furniture's form are reminiscent of the Art Deco style that was popular among Paris's wealthy in the 1920s and 1930s. However, rather than merely relegating them to nostalgia, Lemaire's sense has transformed them into sophisticated, contemporary pieces. While the designs are minimalist, the combination of rare and precious materials exudes the luxury that underpins the Fendi brand.

In addition to the classic and formal nature of Lemaire's furniture collection, the "Fendi Casa Contemporary" line, designed by Toan Nguyen, has also been added to the home collection. Like Lemaire, Nguyen hails from France and has a track record of providing designs to Italian manufacturers such as Kartell, B&B Italia, Guzzini, and Flos. Nguyen's collection, while simple in form, proposes the creation of relaxing spaces, including the Diagonal Sofa, with its diagonal stitching at the upholstery's transitions and beautiful stitching in the finest details, and the Cocoon Sofa, which prioritizes comfort above all else and whose low seat encourages intimate connections between occupants.
