Dior Homme, designed by Kris Van Assche, presented its Summer 2017 collection on June 25th at the Tennis Club de Paris in Paris's 16th arrondissement. The collection, titled "Fun Fair," featured a colorful, illuminated iron-framed object reminiscent of a roller coaster track along the runway. The collection mixed silhouettes evocative of the New Wave and punk-loving youths who frequented the Hacienda, a club in Manchester, England, during the 1980s, with the adolescent attitude of boys who frequented amusement parks. Harness-like accessories adorned tailored jackets, and slim-fit suits featured eyelets all over the body. The blouson and baggy pants set is constructed from scraps hand-stitched with colored thread, while the sleeveless jacket and cropped pants set with eyelets features red shoelaces running in all directions. These punk-inspired pieces all require the sophisticated techniques of a couture house. The use of materials characteristic of this fashion house is also eye-catching, including a jacquard suit that looks like it's been glued together from damaged gauze, and a three-dimensional jacquard suit with loose, frayed threads. Also noteworthy are pieces cut from material printed with oil paintings by contemporary artist Toru Kamei and then hand-stitched.
