Flowers bloom in abundance for viewers, and butterflies flutter throughout the venue. TeamLab's new experiential exhibition

Jul 31, 2016

teamLab will be holding a new exhibition, "teamLab: Transcending Boundaries," at GYRE in Omotesando, Tokyo, from August 9th to September 25th.

The exhibition will feature three works. One of the new works, "Flowers on People," is an installation in which flowers bloom one after another as viewers enter a pitch-black, empty room. Flowers are born, bud, bloom, then eventually wither, wither, and die. This interactive work continues to transform in response to the viewer's behavior. If the viewer stays still, the flowers will grow and bloom all at once; if the viewer moves, they will wither and die all at once. Over the course of one hour, a year's worth of flowers will bloom, wither, and change.

Also on display is "Flutter of Butterflies Without Borders," in which butterflies dance through the space, changing the patterns on their wings. The butterflies fly seamlessly among other works exhibited in the same space, within the spaces of other installations and displays, freeing the concept of a framed work and blurring the boundaries between them. The butterflies' flight is influenced by the state of other works, such as gathering where flowers are blooming, and they die when touched by viewers. This time, three digital art pieces, including "The Void," will be exhibited.
