Momiji Market 2016, an event marking the beginning of autumn, will be held on September 17th and 18th on the banks of the Tama River in Chofu City, Tokyo.
Momiji Market 2016 is an "adult cultural festival" brought together by a diverse group of "craftspeople," including ceramic artists, textile artists, illustrators, essayists, and cafe owners. Since its inception in 2006, it has had a different theme each year, with the theme "100 Solo Exhibitions" held two years ago and "Red and White" held last year.
This year's theme, marking its 10th anniversary, is "FLOWER." 109 groups of creators and 14 administrative staff members will work together to create works that will excite visitors. The event will feature ceramics, woodworking, glass, and textile works, as well as baked goods by craft artists, and food and drink from a bakery. There will also be craft workshops and picture book readings for children. A tent cinema and live performances by artists are also planned. In addition, to celebrate the 10th anniversary, 10 different direct mail pieces will be distributed every Monday, changing weekly, at Tegamisha and other shops around the area. (The 10th piece will be given away at the venue on the day to those who collect all 9 types.) The illustrations for the direct mail pieces were created by Iida Umbrella Shop.
Vendors at Momiji Market 2016 include authors and illustrators such as Kai Minori, Nishiwaki Tadashi, ivory+ Ando Yuki, and Nishimoto Ryota, as well as Iida Umbrella Shop, Nihei Antique Furniture Shop, Egyptian salt family unit Ejipoya, Nikko Coffee, Bread and Tableware Yukkaya, and Caoline Confectionery Shop.
