Jean-Paul Gaultier's Gaultier Paris (GAULTIER PARIS) presented its 2016-17 Autumn/Winter collection on July 6th, as usual, in the brand's headquarters' party room.
The theme was forest. Using motifs of forest flora and fauna, the collection showcased Gaultier's signature flora and fauna, showcasing a variety of items crafted with his signature flora and fauna. Wood-grain print jumpsuits, coats, and long dresses were accessorized with cut crystal necklaces and fur-trimmed lace-up headgear and capes, evoking a strong sense of the natural world.
Other eye-catching pieces included a leather-trimmed knit jacket with a fur collar, a leather suit sewn with pleated ribbons, and a jacket sewn with wood-like shell buttons. The jackets had slightly broad shoulders, with an '80s-inspired silhouette.
Unique combinations, such as a dress with Mongolian lamb fur trim on the skirt and a dress that mixes knitwear with printed muslin, are typical of this maison. There were also pieces that showcased the high level of technique, such as a one-shoulder dress made of lace layered over a satin fabric printed with a lush forest scene, a mini dress adorned with countless long, thin organza leaves, and a geometric cocktail dress made of three-dimensionally bound tulle.
Although this is the case every season, the lineup was full of witty items that cannot be seen at other maisons.
