Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "must-read books" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be introducing the Shibuya branch of NADiff modern (Bunkamura, 1F, 2-24-1 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). ■ "Miss Potter's Life of Never Giving Up on Her Dreams" (New Edition) by Hiroko Denno. Beatrix Potter was born in July 1866 to a wealthy and strict family in London, still retaining the customs of Victorian aristocracy. Her parents' educational policy prevented her from attending school, and instead she was taught music, painting, and other subjects by private tutors. As a result, she struggled to interact with the neighborhood children, and her only friends who helped ease her loneliness were rabbits, cats, dogs, frogs, and other animals featured in the "Peter Rabbit" stories. Her summer vacations in Scotland and the Lake District, the home of her close nanny, also strongly influenced the world of the Peter Rabbit series. When Potter was 27, the son of a woman who had once been her governess fell ill. To cheer the boy up, she sent him a picture letter with a story about a rabbit named Peter. This led to the publication of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit," which subsequently gained worldwide popularity. After achieving fame as a picture book author, Potter settled in England's Lake District and devoted herself to nature conservation efforts. Starting August 9, Bunkamura Museum will be hosting Japan's first large-scale exhibition of original artwork, "Beatrix Potter 150th Anniversary Peter Rabbit Exhibition," commemorating the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter's birth. We hope you will immerse yourself in the world of Peter Rabbit while tracing Potter's life through this book.
