With the cooperation of Masayuki Morioka, the Shiseido Gallery will host the "Crafts Near Me" exhibition, which brings together crafts that are close to everyday life.

Aug 29, 2016

The "Crafts Near Me" exhibition, showcasing crafts in everyday life, will be held at the Shiseido Gallery from September 6th to October 25th.

Shiseido has previously focused on crafts as something that enriches our lives, and has held numerous craft exhibitions alongside fine art. This time, in response to the increasing number of people shifting their lifestyles from a life reliant on technology and overflowing with material goods and information to a simple life closer to nature, the exhibition will be themed around "crafts that gently accompany people in everyday life."

With the cooperation of Morioka Masayuki, president of Morioka Bookstore, the exhibition will feature several works, including new works, by six craft artists selected from the aspects of "food" and "living," two fundamental aspects of daily life. The exhibition will feature beautiful, user-friendly works by artists such as Kamata Naho (metalwork), Kawabata Takeo (woodwork), Tobimatsu Hirotaka (ceramics), Hatano Wataru (washi paper), Peter Ivey (glass), and Yoshimura Kazumi (ceramics). These works include cutlery such as spoons and forks, lighting, boxes, glass containers, and tableware. Additionally, throughout the exhibition, there will be videos showcasing the artists' studios and creative processes, showcasing the background to the creation of their works.
