Hiroshima-based botanical shop "Qusamura" is releasing "Qusamura Art T-shirts" in collaboration with 11 artists.
The artists supported Qusamura's desire to "communicate the artistic charm of beautiful plants to as many people as possible." The 11 artists participating include contemporary artist Aida Makoto, architect Aoki Jun, photographer Ishiuchi Miyako, interior designer Katayama Masamichi, ceramic artist Koie Ryoji, musician Sakamoto Ryuichi, contemporary artist Takamatsu Jiro, art collective Chim↑Pom, art director Nakajima Hideki, photographer Moriyama Daido, and contemporary artist Ryan Gander. Nakajima was responsible for the design, including the packaging.
All designs were provided by the artists specifically for this project. There are 13 designs, 50 pieces of each (100 for Daido Moriyama's "Misawa"), for a total of 700 pieces, available for a limited sale. They come in four sizes: men's S, M, L, and women's, and cost 6,090 yen each. Each piece will have an edition number printed on it. They will be on sale from 11:00 a.m. on the 20th at the Musa Cube Hiroshima store (1-34-1F, Misasa Kitamachi, Nishi-ku, Hiroshima) and online shop, and from August 10th at select Beams stores and other locations. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Japan AiAi Fund, which works to protect the environment in Madagascar, where environmental destruction is serious.
Musa was opened by Kohei Oda last year. Based on the concept of "beautiful plants," Oda personally collects plants from his travels around Japan and pairs them with containers that bring out the individual plants' characteristics.
