On May 20, 2021, Cartier relocated and reopened its Cartier Shinsaibashi Boutique to a nearby location. Since its opening in 2000, the Cartier Shinsaibashi Boutique has long served as the Kansai flagship store and has been a fixture of Osaka. It has been reborn as a place that symbolizes the essence of the Maison through the finest service and luxury experiences.

Facade
The facade, designed by Klein Dytham Architects, blends beautifully into the Midosuji streetscape, which combines history and modernity. From a sustainability perspective, the building is made of domestically grown cypress, a material that has long been used in the construction of Japanese shrines and temples. The organic façade, made up of stacked square-shaped wood pieces carefully shaped by the craftsmanship of artisans, creates a graphical impression in the daytime as natural light highlights the texture of the wood, while at night, the building gently illuminates Midosuji with a soft light that resembles sunlight filtering through the trees, captivating passersby with its different expressions day and night.

Interior
Interior designer Bruno Moinart combined the elegance of Osaka's culture, history, and natural environment, paying particular attention to every detail that makes up the space, breathing life into the boutique as a more feminine and modern space. The curved entrance leads to the women's area, decorated in colors reminiscent of cherry blossom petals, where a large art wall catches the eye. This work, created by Japanese artist Masako Yasuki, symbolizes the encounter between Japanese tradition and Cartier. Based on the theme of water, which is intertwined with Osaka's long history, an ancient coastal pine tree is highlighted by gold leaf and placed in a mirror-like position on the water. The beautiful ginkgo trees of modern-day Midosuji are depicted in glue, enveloping the piece. The shape of water, a modern take on an ancient expression, is rendered in platinum leaf, while Cartier's iconic panthère stands majestically above it in burnt silver leaf, evoking a fantastical sense of motif and a journey through time and space.

As a new initiative, a cloakroom and bar counter have been installed. As befits the name Maison (home), we will listen to the requests of each individual customer and provide a unique experience in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, where they can find the perfect piece for them.

Up the beautifully curved staircase to the second floor, you'll find yourself in a space filled with glamor and color. The salon space, featuring a unique and sophisticated interior, is decorated with lacquered artwork in which Cartier's traditional Panther spot motif is transformed into a ginkgo leaf, reminiscent of Midosuji Avenue. The piece is made by Atelier Midabein, a lacquerware workshop in Paris that has been in business for three generations, and beautifully captures the graphical appeal of the spots motif that appeared in Cartier's first Panthère piece. Furthermore, in a first for Japan, a large monitor capable of digital presentations has been installed, providing new opportunities for communication with customers.

Chandelier
Chandeliers are one of the highlights of interior design. The boutique is decorated with three different chandeliers: the first floor features hand-blown glass made from three layers of white glass, copper mesh, and clear glass, while the second floor features a white porcelain design that beautifully expresses the delicacy of plants, paired with a modern Venetian glass chandelier.

As a High-End Boutique
In 2020, to meet the demands of the mature Japanese high jewelry market, Cartier designated five stores in Japan as "high-end boutiques," specially designed to offer a constant display of high jewelry. The Shinsaibashi boutique is one of these. Cartier's high jewelry is made from stones formed over a long period of time, and is inspired by inherited tradition, modernity, and insatiable curiosity, constantly creating timeless designs that respond to each era. In the prestige area located next to the salon space, doors covered with 3D printed material, handcrafted wallpaper, and detailed panels have all been meticulously designed to ensure that Cartier's exceptional creations look their best.

In addition, the boutique will feature a unisex area with an impressive wall made from Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique, an area stocking men's items and accessories, and a customer service area that provides after-sales service, creating a space befitting the Maison's mission of meeting all customer needs.

The Cartier Shinsaibashi boutique offers a wide range of products, from jewelry and watches to leather goods, fragrances that were launched in earnest last year, and objects and accessories to adorn your interior. Enjoy a journey through the world of Cartier, a brand that continues to pursue timeless beauty.

Exhibition of the Precious "Cartier Collection"
Until June 20th, we will be holding a special exhibition titled "Precious Cartier Symbols: Love, Family Bonds and Happiness," featuring 31 archive pieces from the "Cartier Collection" themed around symbols of love, bonds, and happiness, with the aim of continuing to deepen bonds and spread happiness through jewelry in Osaka.

Cartier Collection
In the 1970s, Cartier began amassing a collection that would serve as a testament to the history of the Maison and the artistic development of its creations. Jewelry, watches, and precious accessories created before the 1970s were collected for preservation and officially established as the "Cartier Collection" in 1983. Currently, the "Cartier Collection" consists of pieces dating from the 1860s to the 2000s. These pieces not only serve as a tangible record of the style and creativity etched into Cartier's history over 170 years, but also as a resource for tracing the broader history of the evolution of jewelry art and society since the end of the 19th century. Currently numbering approximately 3,500 pieces, the growing "Cartier Collection" has attracted the keen attention of museums around the world. Since his first major exhibition at the Petit Palais in Paris in 1989, his works have been exhibited at some of the world's leading cultural institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (1997), the British Museum in London (1998), the Kremlin Museums in Moscow (2007), the Palace Museum in the Forbidden City in Beijing (2009 and 2019), the Grand Palais in Paris (2013–2014), the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra (2018), and the National Art Center, Tokyo (2019).
