Sweatshirts are evolving into more fashionable styles with sophisticated designs [Winter 2013 Women's Trends - Vol. 11]

Jul 18, 2013

Logo sweatshirts from brands like Kenzo, Carven, and Maison Kitsuné have been a hit since last season, and their popularity looks set to continue. This fall/winter collection has seen further evolution, with elaborate designs full of a craftsmanship. A wide variety of sweatshirts are being offered, featuring embroidery, rubber processing, patchwork, and more.

Givenchy, designed by Riccardo Tisci, one of the designers who sparked this sweatshirt craze, has introduced fashionable sweatshirts that blend street style with couture, including ones with Madonna motifs, graphic prints on velour, and organza bodice embroidered with sequins and crystals, with ribbed necks and cuffs—an evolution of the sweatshirt style.

Dries Van Noten adds gold embroidery to a zip-up sweatshirt that looks like it was borrowed from a boyfriend's wardrobe, creating a chic and luxurious look.

The new icon of "Kenzo" is the "eye." This symbol, which represents the guardian deity of ancient Asian mythology, is depicted large in patchwork and embroidery. The silhouette has an oversized shoulder width, which is in line with this year's style.
