The legendary Karl Lagerfeld documentary finally hits theaters

Jul 26, 2013

"The Man Behind Fashion" (distributed by Arcineteran), a documentary film closely following the work and private life of Chanel and Fendi designer Karl Lagerfeld, has been scheduled for release in Japan. Directed and written by Rodolphe Marconi, known for films like "This Is My Body," the film, which was also planned and shot by Lagerfeld himself, took over 200 hours of filming over two years, capturing rare glimpses of his work, including photoshoots with celebrities like Nicole Kidman, behind-the-scenes footage of fashion shows, and the process of designing dresses. The film also includes plenty of behind-the-scenes footage, from his book-cluttered apartment as a bookworm, to his luxurious hotel stay with a personal maid, and even the inside of a plane during travel. In a relaxed interview conducted at his home, he candidly reveals not only his passion for fashion, but also his mysterious childhood and sexuality, and passionately discusses his philosophy on life.

This much-talked-about film was officially entered in the competition section of the 57th Berlin International Film Festival and was released in France in 2007. It will be released in cinemas nationwide from November 16th, including Cinemart Shinjuku and Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho.
