Animal photographer Mitsuaki Iwago's photo exhibition "Cats and Lions" will be held at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum in Yebisu Garden Place from August 10th to October 20th.
The exhibition features approximately 180 works featuring cats and lions, two of Iwago's subjects of photography, and which he spends the most time photographing. By examining the similarities and differences between the two, which Iwago describes as "cats are small lions, and lions are big cats," the exhibition highlights the wildness that humans are gradually forgetting. Iwago will also be holding artist talks on August 10th and 17th.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a photo book featuring 199 works, "Cats and Lions" (Crevis), will be published. It will be available in bookstores nationwide and online in mid-August.
Iwago is an animal photographer born in Tokyo in 1950. In addition to wild animals, he is also known for his work with cats as his subject, having published the photo books "Cats" and "Cat Walk" (both published by Crevice), and holding a photo exhibition "Cat Walk" at the Mitsukoshi main store in May of this year. A photo exhibition "Cats" will also be held at Shibuya Hikarie from the 1st to the 25th of next month.
