Jul 27, 2013

Architect and interior designer David Collins passed away on July 17th at the age of 58. He had been diagnosed with skin cancer just three weeks prior.

Collins was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1955. He founded David Collins Studio in London in 1985 and spent a quarter of a century designing luxury interiors for hotels, restaurants, shops, and more around the world.

He also designed Alexander McQueen's world-first accessories store, which opened in Roppongi Hills in April of this year, as well as stores for the brand in London, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. He also designed the bar at the five-star hotel Claridge's in London and restaurants for three-star chef Gordon Ramsay.

Last month, it was also announced that he will be in charge of designing all new stores around the world for JIMMY CHOO, with the first store scheduled to open in Beverly Hills next spring.

Currently, condolences for his death have been pouring in through various media outlets from celebrities from all walks of life, including Madonna, and a memorial message has been posted on the David Collins Studio website. A public ceremony is also planned.
