The Japanese-Brazilian idol unit aiming to take over as Momoclo is currently a hot topic

Jul 27, 2013

The idol group Linda III, which released their second single, "My Dog Anthony," on July 24th, is making waves online and in the media. Linda III is a five-member group of Japanese-Brazilians raised in Gunma Prefecture. The members are twins Sayuri and Shiori, who are in their third year of junior high school, and Sakura, Naomi, and Mutsumi, who are in their first year of junior high school. They debuted in March of this year with the single "Mirai Seiki eZ zoo." The members live in Oizumi Town, Ota City, and Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, where there are many Japanese-Brazilian communities, and currently perform primarily within Gunma Prefecture. Following the 1990 revision of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, which made it easier for Brazilians and Peruvians to work in Japan, factories in the Oizumi area actively recruited workers. This led to the formation of a Japanese-Brazilian community, and four members, excluding Sakura, immigrated to Japan from Brazil as children. The president of the agency they represent noticed the beauty of Japanese-Brazilian girls and held auditions to form an idol unit of Japanese-Brazilians. The current members were selected and, after extensive lessons, made their debut. The uniqueness of being Japanese-Brazilian, the distinctive feel of Portuguese sung mixed with Japanese, and a hybrid pop sound that incorporates baile funk and samba, a blend of Brazilian funk music, hip hop, and techno, are all unique to Linda III, and their individuality and charm have spread online, growing their popularity to the point where they have now been booked to appear at major festivals such as the Tokyo Idol Festival 2013 on July 27th and 28th, and Summer Sonic 2013 in August. The supporting production team is also solid, with music composed and arranged by club music unit tomishiro, who has worked on soundtracks for Takeshi Kitano's film "TAKESHI'S" and the anime "Lagrange: The Flower of Rinne," as well as songs for SMAP and Shibasaki Kou, and lyrics by Tadano Natsumi, who has worked on a wide range of songs, from idols like Momoiro Clover Z and Dempagumi.inc to anime songs. How much of their appeal can they demonstrate at Summer Sonic, an "away" event where idol fans are not the main audience? If they can capture the hearts of rock fans, it seems they will quickly pave the way to becoming the post-Momoclo band. For this reason, their future activities will be worth keeping an eye on.
