La Kagu, a curation store in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, is collaborating with Parisian concept shop Merci to hold a pop-up event themed "HARENG (Herring) and Vaisselle (Tableware)" from October 23rd to November 16th. Daniel Rozenströk curates this event, curating it around various everyday objects, including wire crafts, hangers, and brushes. This collection focuses on herring and showcases herring and terrine molds used in Eastern Europe for preserving herring. These items were produced by renowned fashion houses in Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg, and feature designs ranging from kitschy to geometric, with materials ranging from faience to secki. During the event, visitors can enjoy herring recipes at the restaurant inside La Kagu. The other theme, "Tableware," will showcase Merci's approach to European food, its presentation, and ways of enjoying it. The space features three Nordic-style tables and chairs, decorated with art objects from Italy, France, and Denmark. From Italy, the exhibit features Italian pizza and pasta plates hand-painted with sponge stamps. From France, goblets, wine glasses, bowls, and pitchers from the "Tipsy" collection by Swiss designers Loris & Livia are on display. From Denmark, Secchi plates, mugs, pitchers, glasses, and bowls, each with a color faded by the sun and sea, are on display. Overhead, lighting fixtures include a chandelier with Venetian glass pendants, Nacho Carbonell's signature piece "Booo," and the "merci" pendant light, made with American-made glass insulators. The pop-up event also marks the debut of portable furniture for displaying the medals that Merci has been selling since 2009. The herring-themed medal is exclusive to "Lakagu." In addition, T-shirts and tote bags will also be sold in limited quantities as collaboration items between "Lakagu" and "Merci."
