ISSEY MIYAKE has announced a new eyewear line, "ISSEY MIYAKE EYES PROJECT." Based on the fundamental principles of product creation, including the importance of basics, a focus on quality and elegance in the details, and a desire for long-lasting appeal, the brand aims to set the standard for tomorrow. Inspired by the unique concept of "a single piece of cloth" that is the foundation of ISSEY MIYAKE's clothing, the concept for this new eyewear began with a single, unbroken line of metal. Designer Yusuke Takahashi explains, "I wanted to conceive of eyeglasses from a single, simple line. The metal line that connects the temples and upper rim to the central bridge is like the spine in the human body, and the front part that covers the eyes is like the expressive body supported by it." Expanding on the concept of a single piece of metal as a bone, the first series released this time is named "BONE SERIES." Designer Takahashi personally appointed Kaneko Optical as his development and production partner. The product is engraved with the name of Kaneko Optical along with ISSEY MIYAKE.
The designs are available in 40 variations of five styles: "BOSTON," "SQUARE," "WELLINTON," "PENTAGON," and "HEXAGON." Based on a classic style, the basic frame is made of titanium. The front is made of pure titanium, and the temples are made of beta titanium. The design is thin and delicate, but also takes into consideration areas that are subject to stress.
The featured model is the "HEXAGON" model, which features a detachable front. By changing the rim and lens colors, it can be used as both glasses and sunglasses. The mechanism that allows anyone to easily remove the glasses is an original design developed by Kaneko Optical for this model.
The "HEXAGON" model is priced at 52,000 yen, and the other four models are all priced at 44,000 yen. The collection will be released on November 12th and will be sold at six Issey Miyake street-level stores, as well as Hankyu Men's Tokyo and Osaka, Ginza Matsuya, and Sendai Mitsukoshi.
