Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "must-read books" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be visiting Gallery 5, the Shinjuku branch in Tokyo (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3rd floor).
■ "LABYRINTH OF UNDERCOVER 25-Year Retrospective"
Since its founding, UNDERCOVER has garnered enthusiastic support, especially from young people, and is known as a leading force in the Japanese fashion industry. Commemorating the brand's 25th anniversary, the exhibition "LABYRINTH OF UNDERCOVER 25-Year Retrospective" is packed with all of UNDERCOVER's creations, including show footage, collection archives, dolls, and paintings. The complex layout of the venue is intriguing, as if wandering through designer Jun Takahashi's "LABYRINTH (brain maze)." This book, which serves as the exhibition catalog, mainly features newly taken photographs of two to three collection looks per season, totaling nearly 100 looks, from 25 years of collections from 1994-95 AW to 2015-16 AW, as well as explanations of the concepts behind each season and the installations that took place in 2009 and 2011. The photographs are packed with shots that fans will love, including those that focus on the details of the clothes. This is a must-have book for fashion lovers, even if you're not a fan of the brand. The exhibition is running at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery until December 23rd.
