Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each store of art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a book they recommend. This time, we will be introducing Gallery 5, a branch in Shinjuku, Tokyo (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3rd floor).
■ "frame and refrain" by Sugito Hiroshi
With a background in modern art that he was exposed to overseas as a child, artist Sugito Hiroshi studied Japanese painting before energetically working in the field of contemporary painting.
This book is Sugito Hiroshi's first collection of works in 10 years, and includes works from the "Sugito Hiroshi frame and refrain" exhibition held this year at the Bernard Buffet Museum in Shizuoka Prefecture, as well as newly created drawings.
The paintings, born from a unique color expression that evokes a delicate yet simple quality and a variety of geometric motifs, transcend the boundaries of abstraction and figuration, the everyday and the extraordinary, and effortlessly convey to the viewer the joy of painting.
In addition to the contents, we would like you to pay attention to the binding as well. By printing on thin paper, traces of the person who picked it up remain on the pages, and the pages before and after can be seen through, an ingenious design that adds even more depth to the collection. Limited to 1,000 copies, it is a perfect gift for someone special.
