The theme is "reproduction," and the art unit "THE COPY TRAVELERS" will hold an exhibition in Shibuya.

Jul 2, 2015

THE COPY TRAVELERS, a Kyoto-based artist duo consisting of Shunsuke Kano, Teppei Sako, and Ryo Ueda, will hold an exhibition titled "THE COPY TRAVELERS by THE COPY TRAVELERS" from July 7th to 26th at NADiff Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo.

The exhibition features an installation synchronized with the trio's artist book, "THE COPY TRAVELERS by THE COPY TRAVELERS" (pre-release on July 7th).

The artist book is based on the theme of "reproduction," a method that the trio incorporates in their own practice. Using everyday tools such as copiers, scanners, and cameras, the trio experimented with the possibilities of "reproduction" itself. The book features approximately 60 works that combine cropped images captured on flat screen displays and printed materials, critically examining the contemporary ways in which images are consumed and their visual effects.

On July 20th, from 4pm to 6pm, there will be an event called "THE COPY TRAVELERS, Medium Theory, or Collaborative Creation in Art/Photography History" by Kai Yoshiaki (photography history/20th century art history) and Hoshino Futoshi (aesthetics/representational cultural theory).

On July 26th, from 5pm to 7pm, there will also be an event called "Mic Relay, Sampling, Slow Up Above the Tags - The Hip Hop Ethos of THE COPY TRAVELERS" featuring critic Nishida Hirotoshi and others. A closing party is also planned after the event.
