To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Japanese publication of the picture book series "Gaspard and Lisa," an exhibition titled "Gaspard and Lisa: 15th Anniversary of the Japanese Publication" will be held from August 5th to 24th at the Event Square on the 8th floor of Matsuya Ginza.
"Gaspard and Lisa," featuring a mysterious character who is neither a dog nor a rabbit, is a picture book by Paris-based couple Georg Hallensleben and Ann Guttmann. The protagonist, "Lisa," was born from an illustration in a "red notebook" that Georg gave to his wife, Ann, for Christmas, and the series was made into a picture book series. 2015 marked the 15th anniversary of the Japanese publication of the series.
The exhibition will display approximately 150 original drawings from the "Gaspard and Lisa" series, from early masterpieces to the latest works not yet published in Japan and previously unpublished works. In addition, the "red notebook" will be on display in Japan for the first time. Other exhibits include early rough sketches and three-dimensional objects from the creation of the picture book, as well as original drawings from "Gaspard and Lisa @ TOKYO STATION," a new work created specifically for the exhibition. A screening of the latest footage of the artist and her studio will also be on display, creating a space where visitors can fully enjoy the world of the series. The merchandise corner will feature 300 items, including stuffed toys, figurines, pouches, coasters, and other goods exclusive to the exhibition. Original artwork by Georg Hallensleben will also be on sale. A "Gaspard and Lisa Cafe" will also be open, where visitors can enjoy a meal with the characters from the picture book.
