The first Japanese location of Slappy Cakes, a popular pancake and cafe restaurant in Portland, Oregon, USA, will open at Lumine Est Shinjuku on Thursday, January 31st. Founded in 2009, Slappy Cakes has been featured in magazines and on television across the United States, and was even ranked in the "Top 10 Restaurants to Visit in America" by the popular TV show "America's Best Food." A unique feature of Slappy Cakes is that customers can cook their own pancake batter and toppings using the hotplates built into their tables. Enjoy freshly made pancakes, such as "Buttermilk Pancakes with Blueberries and Homemade Lemon Curd" and "Germ Pancakes with Granola, Peanut Butter, Yogurt, and Honey." Traditional American egg dishes, salads, and burgers are also available. The Lumine Est Shinjuku location features a casual diner-inspired interior. The result is a "Slappy Diner" that has a nostalgic feel, yet is also in tune with the sensibilities of the new era. Following the opening of the first store in Japan, a store is also scheduled to open in Maui, Hawaii in April of this year.
