Donate to forest conservation organizations with tweets, likes, and reusable shopping bags. United Arrows launches "REDUCE SHOPPING BAG ACTION"

Jan 28, 2013

United Arrows will be running a limited-time campaign called "REDUCE SHOPPING BAG ACTION" from February 1st to 28th.

If you decline to use a shopping bag and shop with your own bag during the campaign period, the first 10,000 people will receive a deodorizing hook made from thinned cypress wood. 10 yen will be donated to forest conservation organization "More Trees" for each purchase. The campaign is being implemented at 159 stores nationwide across seven store brands, including "UNITED ARROWS," "BEAUTY&YOUTH UNITED ARROWS," "UNITED ARROWS green label relaxing," and "Another Edition."

In addition, if you tweet or "like" the "REDUCE SHOPPING BAG ACTION" website during the campaign period, United Arrows will donate 10 yen to "More Trees." More Trees, represented by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, is a forest conservation organization with the concept of "More Trees." It works to increase carbon dioxide absorption through forest creation, including thinning Japan's forests and planting trees in tropical rainforests, and promotes carbon offsetting (forests' ability to absorb and fix CO2). The organization is also running the "LIFE 311" project, which aims to support the construction costs of temporary wooden housing built in the town of Sumita, Iwate Prefecture, using local timber and donate wood pellet stoves to the housing. REDUCE SHOPPING BAG ACTION supports this project, and in the first half of this fiscal year (April to September 2012), a total of 87,875 people donated 747,215 yen.
