Actress Marilyn Monroe was born June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California, USA. She died August 5, 1962. She began working at age 16, married for the first time in 1942, and divorced after four years. She was discovered as a model and made her debut in showbiz. Her acting debut in 1947 appeared in the film "The Shocking Miss Pilgrim," but her career didn't take off. She later debuted her distinctive "Monroe Walk" in her starring role in "Niagara." Her success in films like "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "How to Marry a Millionaire" solidified her image as a "dumb blonde." In 1955, she founded "Marilyn Monroe Productions" to establish herself as a mainstream actress, and produced her first film, "Bus Stop," in 1956. In 1957, she was nominated for a BAFTA and won a David di Donatello Award for her role in "The Prince and the Showgirl." In 1960, she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performance in Some Like It Hot.

Although her career continued to flourish, she caused a stir when she died at the young age of 36 from an overdose of sleeping pills on August 5, 1962. In her personal life, she married for the second time to baseball player Joe DiMaggio, but divorced after eight months. In 1956, she married screenwriter Arthur Miller, but also divorced in 1961. From around 1959, she had an affair with President John F. Kennedy, and sang "Happy Birthday to You" at Kennedy's 45th birthday party. This was her last public appearance.
