Eri, the owner of the second-hand clothing store Dept., has launched a tableware brand! The first product is a lip-shaped mug.

Dec 5, 2016

Eri, owner of the legendary secondhand clothing store DEPT and designer of mother and VTOPIA, launched her new tableware brand, TOWA CERAMICS, on December 7th. The first item, the "LIPS MUG" (6,000 yen), will be released on the same day.

Towa Ceramics was launched based on Eri's desire to "create something different from clothing, something that can be integrated into daily life and shared with many people." The first item, the "LIPS MUG," is a reproduction by Eri of a 1984 design by Katsuro Noguchi, a Hasami ware sculptor from Nagasaki Prefecture. The rim of the mug is designed to resemble a lip, providing an incredibly comfortable fit when placed on the sip, allowing for smooth drinking. The handle is also shaped like an ear, with piercings even in the earlobe. The item can be enjoyed not only as a mug, but also as a vase, pen holder, ornament, and more.

In addition, to commemorate the brand's launch, a pop-up store will be open at VACANT in Harajuku, Tokyo from December 17th to 25th. As the brand normally only plans to sell online, the pop-up store is a rare opportunity to actually get your hands on the brand's items.
