Doinel, a shop in Aoyama, Tokyo, is pre-selling the official Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine souvenir, "Ume Ume Uguisu," until January 15, 2017. Pottery artist Makoto Kagoshima designed the approximately 6,000 plum trees within the grounds of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, and artisans at the long-established Japanese confectionery shop Suzukake transformed the design into dried confectionery. Four varieties of plum blossoms and nightingales have been carefully crafted down to their fine details. Flavors include cinnamon and mugwort, spices associated with Dazaifu's history. Made with fine, smooth wasanbon sugar, these dried confectioneries melt in your mouth. To highlight Kagoshima's design, the confections are slightly larger than standard dried confectioneries. A box of five is priced at 1,404 yen (tax included), and while supplies last. General sales will begin on January 28, 2017.
