An exhibition of ceramic artist Yuko Okazaki's work will begin on December 21st at 8/ ART GALLERY/ Tomio Koyama Gallery in Shibuya Hikarie, directed by Tomio Koyama Gallery. Yuko Okazaki has a somewhat unusual background, having worked in public relations at Issey Miyake Inc. before apprenticing under ceramic artist Eiichi Morita of Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and undergoing five years of training before becoming a ceramic artist herself. Many of her works feature motifs of flowers, insects, and the changing of the seasons, and are characterized by an elegant and modern atmosphere that is familiar to everyday life. This marks the artist's third solo exhibition at Tomio Koyama Gallery, further exploring the floral motifs that have frequently featured in his previous works. "Tracing back memories of the flowers I saw as a child, I created each petal with my own fingers, so carefully that my fingerprints remained," he says. The exhibition features approximately 200 pieces, including a pot adorned with 200 petals and a white vessel with gold accents that resembles a butterfly dancing among flowers. The artist himself said, "It was a delightful and mysterious experience, like diving into the world unfolding within the vessel with my whole body." The vibrant, rising petals embody these words, adorning the vessels like the delicate lace adorning a dress. The artist will be present on the opening day, the 21st, and there will be an artist talk starting at 7 PM.
