New art facility "complex665" opens in Roppongi, housing Tomio Koyama Gallery, Taka Ishii Gallery, and more.

Oct 16, 2016

On October 21st, the first day of Roppongi Art Night, the commercial facility "complex665" will open as a new art spot in Roppongi, Tokyo. Tomio Koyama Gallery, ShugoArts, and Taka Ishii Gallery will each open new spaces within the three-story facility.

Since the opening of Roppongi Hills in 2003, a variety of Tokyo's most iconic art museums have opened one after another, including the Mori Art Museum, the National Art Center, Tokyo, Suntory Museum of Art, and 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, making Roppongi a district that can now be called a cultural hub. The newly constructed building "complex665" in Roppongi will house Tomio Koyama Gallery, ShugoArts, and Taka Ishii Gallery, and each will host an opening exhibition featuring new and unreleased works by the gallery artists. The new space of Tomio Koyama Gallery, whose interior was designed by Mutoka Architects, is hosting Mika Ninagawa's solo exhibition "Light of" until December 3rd. ShugoArts, whose interior was designed by Jun Aoki Architects, is showing Masato Kobayashi's "Thrice Upon A Time" until December 4th. Additionally, Taka Ishii Gallery, whose interior was designed by Broad Bean, is holding its opening exhibition "Inaugural Exhibition: MOVED" until November 19th. Participating artists in the exhibition include Ei Arakawa, Nobuyoshi Araki, Thomas Demand, Elmgreen & Dragset, Luke Fowler, Mario Garcia Torres, Tomoo Gokita, Naoya Hatakeyama, Shinya Hoki, Zon Ito, Yuki Kimura, Shinpei Kusanagi, Yukinori Maeda, Daido Moriyama, Kyoko Murase, Silke Otto-Knapp, Sterling Ruby, Kei Takemura, Hirofumi Toyama, and Cerith Wyn Evans.
