Following on from last year's, the pop-up event "SASHIKO LOVE 2" for "PC SASHIKO," a sashiko project developed by PORTER CLASSIC's Katsuyuki Yoshida, which took five years of dedication from fabric development to processing and strength research, will be held from December 26th to January 10th at the promotion area on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building.
The same pop-up event will also be held from January 17th to 21st as "SASHIKO LOVE in PARIS" at The Japan Store Isetan Mitsukoshi in Paris (101 bis. quai Branly 75015 Paris, France).
The "SASHIKO LOVE" event held last November was well-received by many Porter Classic fans, and sashiko is gaining attention overseas as a new trend in men's fashion, alongside indigo dyeing and hanten coats, as a Japanese element. While the previous event focused on indigo products, "SHIKO LOVE 2" will feature the debut of black sashiko, "PC SASHIKO Black." Katsuyuki Yoshida first discovered the appeal of sashiko as a material suitable for all ages and genres after seeing slides of sashiko scenes from daily life at the Aomori Ethnographic Museum 17-18 years ago. This unique fabric, which is strengthened, thickened, and warmed by repeated stitching and needlework, is found in similar cultures around the world, including India and Africa. "Reproducing sashiko is my destiny; it's my final life's work," he says. This year's Sashiko Black collection features a classic jacket accented with goat leather and hand-embroidered accents, featuring hand-painted French impressionist buttons, and a reimagined French jacket with large D-shaped pockets and gray sashiko thread. This collection showcases the world of Made in Japan, a global standard handed down through three generations—children and grandchildren. During the event, Katsuyuki and Reo Yoshida will be visiting the store on January 3rd for a trunk show (2pm-4pm). On the same day, the first 50 people to spend over 32,400 yen (tax included) will receive a heart badge made from sashiko-dyed fabric. On January 7th, there will be a workshop where you can experience making braided cord accessories (1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm, 5:30pm, approximately 60 minutes per session, first 6 people per session, participation fee 6,480 yen including tax), and on January 8th there will be a sashiko experience using a scarf (1pm and 3pm, approximately 90 minutes per session, first 4 people per session, participation fee 12,960 yen including tax).
