On March 19, Fred Perry opened its world-largest flagship store, "FRED PERRY SHOP TOKYO" (5-9-6 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), in Jingumae, Tokyo, carrying the brand's entire collection. Boasting over 330 sq. m (100 tsubo) of sales floor space, making it the largest Fred Perry store in the world, the store was inspired by the design of factory buildings constructed during the Industrial Revolution. The exterior walls are made of bricks reminiscent of London's streets, with approximately 45,000 custom-made bricks fired in a century-old kiln in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, laid using the English bond method. The bricks are finished in a modern dark chocolate color to match the Jingumae streetscape. The two entrances, on the east and south sides, are connected by a promenade and feature Fred Perry's iconic laurel trees. Laurel is also used for the flooring on the mezzanine level. The mezzanine floor also features a sound system combining main speakers from TANNOY, a leading British brand, with a LINN analog player.
To commemorate the opening, starting March 19th, the store will be selling six limited-edition items called "TOKYO SPECIALS," created in collaboration with musicians and artists closely associated with the brand. A portion of the sales from these items will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity that supports young people suffering from illness, disabilities, and drug and alcohol addiction.
