On March 7th, Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent held an exclusive show for its AW16-17 women's collection at its new couture salon, located at 24 rue des Universités in Paris. The building, which took three years to renovate under Hedi Slimane's supervision, was originally completed in 1687 by Thomas Gaubert, King Louis XIV's architectural director. Named Hôtel Sénectaire, it was designated a historic monument in 1991. The first and second floors house the hall, while the third and fourth floors house two ateliers: Fleur, responsible for dresses, and Tailleur, responsible for tailoring. A unique feature of this salon is that not just anyone can order, but only those selected by Hedi Slimane are able to own couture pieces. The collection was comprised of references from Yves Saint Laurent's archives, but was given a modern update by Hedi Slimane. Most of the outfits were mini-length, with a focus on revealing cocktail dresses, including bare shoulder and one-shoulder styles. The collection featured a succession of striking looks, including mini dresses embroidered with sequins and beads, dresses adorned with extremely large ruffles, and fur coats with high puffed shoulders.
Finally, a heart-shaped fur coat was introduced. This was a reference to the fact that Yves Saint Laurent, during his lifetime, would coordinate a heart pendant necklace with one of his favorite looks.
