Kering announced the appointment of Anthony Vaccarello as the new creative director of Yves Saint Laurent in the early hours of April 4th (Japan time). Anthony Vaccarello is a 36-year-old Belgian native. After graduating from La Cambre, Belgium's leading educational institution for art and design, he gained two years of experience at Fendi before founding his own eponymous brand in 2009. He also served as a consulting designer at Versus Versace for three years, before taking on the role of creative director in 2015. He won the Grand Prize at the Hyères International Fashion Festival in 2006 and the prestigious ANDAM Fashion Award in 2011.
Regarding Anthony Vaccarello's appointment, Francesca Berrettini, President and CEO of the brand, commented, "His contemporary and pure aesthetic standards are a perfect fit for the House. His silhouettes perfectly balance provocative femininity with sharp masculinity. Anthony Vaccarello's appointment is a natural fit, as he embodies the essence of Yves Saint Laurent. I look forward to working together to build a new era and further advance the House."
Anthony Vaccarello also commented, "Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent is legendary for his creativity, style, and bold ideas. I am proud to be a part of the new history of this great House."
The Spring/Summer 2017 Women's Paris Collection, to be held in October, will be Vaccarello's first collection since taking over.
