Hiroko Koshino and Akira Uno collaborate on the theme of "portraits" in an exhibition held in Ginza

Jun 25, 2015

KH Gallery in Tokyo's Ginza district, which showcases the artworks of designer and artist Koshino Hiroko, is hosting a collaborative exhibition with illustrator Uno Akira, "Koshino Hiroko + Uno Akira," from June 26th to July 26th.

The exhibition brings together two of Japan's leading artists in the fields of fashion and illustration, each with a focus on the theme of portraiture. Koshino Hiroko will be showcasing a collection of portraits of people wearing traditional costumes from around the world, while Uno Akira will be showcasing approximately 60 works, ranging from portraits of world-famous musicians to original artwork for kabuki posters. The two artists, each garnering attention for their work across genres, combine their worldviews to create a fascinating space with a new perspective. Regarding the exhibition, Hiroko Koshino commented, "It's been years since I first encountered Uno's work, which flows through me like a pantomime. We've long been aware of each other's achievements, and now that we've each built our own stages, I think we can quietly gaze upon each other's worlds through portraits." Akira Uno said, "Hiroko Koshino is as skilled as a painter. Her range of expression is wide, from ink painting to oil painting, from abstract to concrete. This two-person exhibition was planned in the portrait genre. Thanks to the generosity of Teruo Iwata, a collector of my paintings, I was able to borrow a group of 50-size portraits for use in the same space, and I feel like I'm finally able to respond to Hiroko's energy."
