During the Golden Week period from April 27th to May 8th, Center Park /TOKYO Kaihoku on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building will host "TOKYO Kaihoku no Yu," proposing a lifestyle that puts a new spin on the Japanese culture of public baths.

Public baths are a way of conveying Japan's nostalgic culture to the present, but their numbers are actually declining year by year. According to the Tokyo Bathhouse Association, the number of public baths in Tokyo, which stood at 2,043 in 1988, had fallen to just 650 by April 2015. In order to redisseminate the appeal of this disappearing public bath culture, this project will reexamine public baths, which can be enjoyed by both adults and children, from a fashion perspective. First up, as part of the "Sento Fashion" collection, creators and designers from Tokyo's hottest brands this season, including Kloka, Nukeme, VL by VEE, YUKI FUJISAWA, Romei, and Crepe., will be showcasing "Sento"-inspired printed T-shirts, jumpsuits, caps, accessories, and more. In addition to these, the store will also be selling original sento goods such as sento cookies from AYSKSMATSUNO from Okashiya, which makes cute and cynical sweets, to enjoy after a bath, toothbrushes from MOYO, and miscellaneous goods from Gohachi, a small wholesaler based in Mitaka, as well as soaps and buckets to enjoy while bathing.

Other content available at the venue includes public bath photos by architectural photographer Imada Kotaro, an exhibition by Maruyama Kiyoto, the oldest active public bath scenery artist, the Kerorin bathtub snack bar, books to learn about public bath culture, and a public bath quiz.

In addition, from April 28th to 30th (12:00-13:00 each day), there will be an event featuring "Yugejii," the official mascot of the Shinjuku Ward Bathhouse Association. From May 18th to 24th, a caravan titled "That's right! Let's go to the public bath" is also planned for Space #2 on the 2nd floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store.
